Catch The Reading Bug This Summer at the Library

Fast bug, slow bug, red bug, blue bug. Big bug, little bug, good bug, bad bug. Catch the Reading Bug! at the Minot Public Library this summer where children can explore the world of bugs and enjoy other activities during the library’s summer reading program.

Children who read a minimum of thirty minutes per week will be eligible for weekly drawings that will be held throughout the summer. Children signing up for the program will be given a time log to keep track of the time they spend reading each week. They will be given one chance to win for each symbol crossed off the time log. Children reading a minimum of 1 hour per week for two weeks will receive a pass for one round of golf at the Jack Hoeven WEE LINKS golf course. Children will also be given a chance to win each time they check out materials.

Drawings will be held weekly throughout the summer. Grand prizes will be given at the end of the program. Prizes include: a Barnes and Noble Gift Card given by THOMAS EYE CARE AND EYE WEAR, a Room, Breakfast, and Pool Party given by HOLIDAY INN, and a Family Pass for 2008 to ROOSEVELT ZOO and a Scheel’s Gift Card given by SIGNAL REALTY.

The program will kick off on May 29th in Room 301 of the Minot Municipal Auditorium starting at 2:00 PM. Charlie Williams, the Noise Guy, will entertain both children and adults with a special summer reading kick-off show. Children may sign up for the summer reading program at this time as well starting at 1:30 PM.

The program will conclude with drawings for the final prizes to be held at Roosevelt Park Zoo August 8th. Watch your local newspaper for time and further details.

Weekly Awesome Summer Programs (WASP)

Join us on Thursday afternoon for our WASP programs. These programs are for children in grades 1 – 6 with the exception of the July 3rd program.

June 12th Come to the GRASSHOPPER HOP. We’ll have a grasshopper toss and make a grasshopper that you can take home.

June 19th Join us for a whole program on WORMS. We’ll do fun things like have worm races, eat fried worms, and other disgusting things.

June 26th Help us find the bugs in the children’s library. We’ll have a BUG SCAVENGER HUNT and make a bug collector cup that you can take home with you.

July 3rd A special WASP program just for children ages 4-7. Do you have rumbly in your tummy? Do you hear a buzzing in your ears? Come to a special Winnie the Pooh Party where we will hear some great stories and make some special bees.

July 10th It’s a BUTTERFLY BASH. We’ll be doing all sorts of butterfly activities.

July 17th The BUZZ ABOUT BEES. We’ve invited a beekeeper to tell us all about honeybees.

July 24th CREEPY CRAWLY CRITTERS at the library. We’ll have spiders and cockroaches galore. Be sure to join us.
