Adult Summer Reading Program

The 2017 Adult Summer Reading Program begins on Saturday, June 3rd and runs through Friday, August 11th. We are switching it up this year and instead of merely tracking pages read, we are doing library bingo! Keeping Yourself Safe

Self_Protection.2.jpgBuilding safe communities is essential to building a better world and the Minot Public Library wants to help you keep yourself safe. On Tuesday, July 11th at 6:00 pm, the Minot Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit will present “Self Protection Awareness.” This seminar is an informal and interactive presentation designed to share information on how to better avoid becoming a victim of several different kinds of crimes. Also presented is information on how to respond if actually confronted with criminal victimization.

This program is open for all ages and light refreshments will be available. Please call the Library at 852-1045 for more information.


Scheels at the Library - Destination Hunting

On Thursday, June 15 at 7:00pm at the Minot Public Library, local bowhunters Jeff Jacob and Roger Coleman will tell their stories of traveling across oceans and continents to bag their biggest game.  Join them and representatives from Scheels for a special presentation and discover how two Minot men realized their passions abroad.  Please call the library at 852-1045 or Scheels at 852-1010 for more information.  All ages welcome.

Alcoholics Anonymous: Their Story

**The library will be CLOSED every Sunday from now through September 3rd.  We will reopen on Sundays starting September 10th.**


Build a Better World Community Fair

The “Build a Better World” Community Fair is the perfect opportunity for you to see how people are helping build a better Minot. This event is completely FREE for those attending and will be a family-friendly event featuring different cultures, organizations and services that help create a strong community. There will be live music and hands-on fun for children of all ages as the Minot Public Library and Ward County Public Library kick off our Summer Reading Program.

Make Your Own Stained Glass

The Minot Public Library brings you FREE downloadable magazines from Zinio! Click on Zinio-eMagazines on the left side of our website to create your Zinio account and start reading magazines on your computer and/or tablet!

Patrons are able to select both new and back issues, adding them to personal reading libraries with no holds, no checkout periods, and no limits to the number of magazines checked out and downloaded. Learn How to Use Our Digital Resources

The library now has printable instruction sheets available on our website for some of our digital resources. These include Pronunciator (our language learning database) and our 2 most popular downloadable book services: Library2Go/Overdrive and OneClickDigital. You can find them in the "eBook/eAudiobook/Database Instructions" section in "Technology Education."  If you still need assistantce, please signup for a Tech Tutor session and one of our wonderful staff will help you out. 


Lego Club

Since this is our last TNT, we are bringing out a little bit of everything... Library staff will be bringing out robots, cameras and more while you enjoy tacos in a bag. Doors open at 6:00 pm and food is available on a first-come, first serve basis. See you Tuesday!!

Prove Your Game 2017

PROVE YOUR GAME? What’s that?  It’s the Makerspace Board Game Creation contest!  Our teens create their own board game using Makerspace digital tools in an interesting new way! It’s a chance to learn new software and develop something teens can take home and will use.  Board game creation requires reading, strategic thinking, rule creation and logistical planning.

Federal tax forms and instruction booklets are available at the MPL!  We have 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms and instruction booklets in addition to the 1096 and 1099 forms.  Unfortunately, North Dakota did not make any physical state tax forms available this year.

Dr. Seuss Celebration

dr._seuss_bday_party.jpgYou're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child.  Join the Minot Public Library and the Minot Education Association on Sunday, March 5 as we celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday.  The event will be held at the Minot Public Library from 1-3:30 for children of all ages.  We will have crafts, games, and all kinds of fun for children and their parents, grandparents or caregivers.  For more information contact the Children’s Library at 838-0606. 


MPL Announces Continuing Education Courses

universalbanner.jpgThe Minot Public Library is pleased to announce the availability of online continuing education service Universal Class.

Through the library’s website (Digital Resources > Education > Universal Class), MPL patrons have access to lifelong learning courses in over 30 subject areas, many of which offer continuing education units (CEUs). More than 500 courses are available, and all are designed and led by professional instructors to build deeper understanding and mastery of subject matter. Universal Class includes videos, assignments, quizzes, tests, and options for social media interaction with other learners. Patrons may take multiple classes and learn at their own pace.


Tech Talks: The Technology of Health

On Tuesday, January 17th at 6:00 pm Josh Pikka, Technology Coordinator at MPL, will present “The Technology of Health" to help you make the most of all the available health gadgets. This FREE program is open to the public and will cover recent advances in technology that make staying healthy easier. “The Technology of Health” will take place in the North Community Room and will include some healthy snacks for attendees.

Full 2017 Books 'n Brews Book Club Schedule

In addition to the upcoming January 5th meeting, the entire 2017 Books 'n Brews Book Club schedule is set!

The club itself will be meeting the first Thursday every other month, starting with the January meeting. It will continue to be held at the Tap Room, located at 23 Main St. S between Rick's Jewelry and Rooster's, at 7:00 pm.

For the January, March, July, and September clubs, 10 copies available for pickup 1-2 weeks after previous book’s meeting in addition to copies owned by library.  The May and November titles have 1 copy available in the library for checkout or must either be purchased on your own.

Checkout Our Playaway Collection

The Minot Public Library now offers an expanded Playaway selection for Adults!  Playways are little all-in-one audioplayers that replace the need for bulky audio book cases or having to handle CDs.  New titles include the complete Game of Thrones series, 3 of Malcolm Gladwell's best-sellers about success - Outliers, Tipping Point, and David & Goliath, recent fiction hits such as The Girl on the Train, Ready Player One, and The Nightingale, and a variety of American and world histories.  To see the complete listing of our Adult Playaway collection click on "Read Full Post."  They are currently located in our New DVD/Audio Book/CD section near Aisle 25 of Adult Services.  Come take a look!
