Family Board Game Creation and Play: Viking Chess (Hnefatafl)

Posted by MPLadult on June 13, 2018

Have you ever been to Norsk Hostfest and witnessed some of the vendors selling a board for a game called “Hneftafl”? It is a game similar to chess and checkers that uses an 11 by 11 grid shaped board and 37 pieces. The object of the game is to either capture the “king” piece, or to have your “king” escape the board. If you haven’t purchased a game board from Hostfest, it is likely that you don’t own your own board. Well, on June 23rd all ages are welcome to come to the library to build your own Hneftafl board (children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult)! For more information, and to reserve a spot, call Joshua at 852-1045 or email josh.pikka@minotnd.org. Board game supplies will be limited.betty_board_1.jpg
