Technology_of_Health_Final.jpgHow can the library help you make healthier choices in 2017? On Tuesday, January 17th at 6:00 pm Josh Pikka, Technology Coordinator at MPL, will present “The Technology of Health" to help you make the most of all the available health gadgets. This FREE program is open to the public and will cover recent advances in technology that make staying healthy easier. “The Technology of Health” will take place in the North Community Room and will include some healthy snacks for attendees.

Many people know about Fitbits and apps that track your daily runs, but there is a lot more out there than these basic products and consumers should know what to look for when considering these technologies. The Janauary 17th Tech Talk will cover the following topics: Wearables, Smart Scales, Apps, Exergaming and more. Also, for the first time, this Tech Talk will also be streamed live on the Library's Facebook Page. To find out more call the Library at 852-1045.

Technology goes beyond devices with your library card; for resources that are super easy to use go to MPL’s website and use your library card. Why spend money on the magazine copy when you have it for free? MPL’s digital resources include Zinio (an online magazine service), Alt HealthWatch, Consumer Health Complete and Health Source. Zinio gives full access to magazines such as Prevention, Men’s Health and Women’s Health while the other resources provide access to quality articles on holistic health care, patient advocacy and scholarly articles related to medical and health sciences.

One of the Library’s most-used resources is the OverDrive digital library (also known as Library2Go). While many people use OverDrive to check out eBooks and eAudiobooks, few people realize that videos are also available for free through OverDrive. Videos on topics such as Yoga, massage, homeopathy and Tai-Chi are available to view on computers, smartphones and tablets with a library card.
