Libraries Rock is the theme of our summer program so we are kicking off with Music Camp!  On June 12th we will feature Miranda Fenner doing a hands on music activity for children grade 1-5.  We will follow up on June 14th with children making African Finger Pianos and Rainsticks.  Children attending the June 19th session will be making music with different types of instruments that they make and on June 21st they will have the opportunity to touch and explore real instruments at our musical petting zoo.

A special Art Camp will begin on June 26th with children making pet rocks.  June 28th will feature working with sand and the children doing some sand and salt art.  The camp continue July 10th and July 12th with artists from the Taube Museum on hand to do art activities with the kids.  On July 10th children will be doing an oil, pastel, and chalk activity based on the children’s book Surprise, and on July 12th they will have fun doing a watercolor project based on Eric Carle’s book, Mr. Seahorse.

What would summer be without a Science Camp?  On July 17th we will focus on Rocks.  Bring your favorite rock to show off but if you don’t have one, no worries we will have plenty.  Have fun making music on July 19th with our Makey-Makey kits.  Kids will have the opportunity to make music using a variety of materials.  We will continue making music on July 24th with water xylophones and straw flutes.  We will conclude our science camp with a session on sound.

For children who have an interest in LEGO Robotics, the Minot Public Library will hold a special camp for children who might be interested in joining a LEGO Robotics Team this fall.  Time for this camp is 6:00 – 8:00 PM on July 31, August 2, 7, and 9.  Children must be in Grades 4-8 to attend and they must sign up and commit to all 4 sessions.  Registration is required and will be limited to 15 children.  This camp is free and parents are invited to attend with their children so that they can get a feel for LEGO Robotics as well.  Children will learn how to build a robot and will program it using sensors to do different missions.
