Reference Desk

A librarian is on duty at the reference desk all hours that the library is open, to provide assistance.  Whether it's a school assignment, information needed for your job or a question that's been "nagging" at you all day, we're here to help.  Phone in reference service is available by calling (701)852-1045 or sending an email to Minot Public Library

In addition to the print sources (encyclopedias, almanac, directories, etc.), MPL reference service also uses CD-Roms, Online databases, and the Internet to help you find the information you need.

Databases available remotely (in your home, office, or away from the Library) are listed in Research Tools.  Databases which are available only at the Library include:

AncestryPlus-online family history database

Baker and Taylor-lists over 3 million books, videos, recordings available from publishers 

Foundation Grants-provides information on grants for nonprofit organizations

Mitchell Manuals-master manual for domestic and imported automobiles and trucks from 1983 to 1995

Information and Referral Service

• Offers assistance by directing someone with a question or a problem to the agency or persons who can best solve the problem.
• Provides a two-way communication between people and services.
• Helps people cut through the maze of public and private services, gaining timely access to information and programs available.
• Eliminates barriers people find when looking for answers.
• Serves as a main channel of access to human services and a central facilitator for agencies and service systems in the community.
• The Information and Referral Service's goal is to get information for people whether it is located within the Information and Referral Office, the Library, or from an individual with the knowledge of an agency that can assist them.
• Two directories are published by the Information and Referral Service. They are a Human Services Directory and a Clubs and Organizations Directory. A new Clubs and Organizations Directory published every year is available for a small donation of $2.00 each. If you have updates that need to be addressed, please contact the Information and Referral Office by calling (701)852-0333. This directory lists over 600 clubs and agencies in the Minot area, name of a contact person, address and phone number for each.
