Harmony Center

Members of the Harmony Center learn about resources available to them, develop daily living skills to help them live more independently, participate in the outside community and find recreational and social outlets. They participate in recreational activities located at the center as well as in the community. Members of the Harmony Center are provided opportunities and encouraged to live more productive and dignified lives in the community. The Harmony Center members are involved in the operation of the center itself.

An advisory board composed of members works with the director to plan and implement special activities and events.

At the Center, staff and members voluntarily work side by side to accomplish daily tasks.

Community support: the success of the Harmony Center will be enhanced by active community development. Additional funds are needed to expand the program and student volunteers are always welcomed. Persons interested in donating items or funds are welcomed. Goal: Through the existence of the Harmony Center and by member participation in center activities and community events, Harmony Center members, their families and friends hope to erase the stigma surrounding mental illness and educate the community on the needs of the mentally ill. The ND legislature defined this project as a psychosocial center because it involves assisting the mentally ill in the development of both psychological and social skills that promote good mental health. The existence of these centers can help the seriously mentally ill develop better coping skills and possibly avoid repeated hospitalizations for their illness. The Center members self confidence will grow and they will build self esteem, learn to set goals to accomplish them, and become more productive members of society. The Center can also help the surrounding community to better understand the disease of mental illness and learn to help and accept those who suffer from it.
