Adoption – placement program, Microchipping, and Humane Education presentations to schools, civic groups, etc. Burial & cremation services for grieving families who have lost family pets. Pet Therapy – visits with animals from Animal Shelter and emergency sheltering. We shall shelter and care for lost and unwanted animals. We shall place animals into humane environments. We shall implement educational programs and provide services to promote pet ownership. We shall be advocates for animals, speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Volunteers are needed to bath or groom animals, take them for a walk or just give them some love! Other opportunities include assisting with the morning feeding, clean up, call families who have adopted animals, or even serve on a committee for special events or Pet Therapy – visits with animals from Animal Shelter.
Behavior Training
SVAS offers free behavior training through our partners at Goodpup!
Training is essential to building a bond with your dog. It’s easier, more enjoyable, and more effective when done in the dog’s home with its owner. GoodPup provides private training with certified trainers who teach cues and advanced behavior on topics like crate training, barking, begging, and jumping. Rescue Readers
Promotes confidence in literacy for children and adults by allowing individuals to read to an animal of their choice on a weekly basis. This program also allows shelter pets to socialize prior to adoption, raising the adoptability of the pet significantly. Rescue Readers has a participation rate of approximately 900 children per year and has served over 3,000 children to-date.

Our community pantry provides essential pet supplies to help people in the community in times of need.
Emergency Housing
Allows SVAS to provide care and shelter for animals whose owner is fleeing a domestic violence situation, or a situation in which homelessness is the result of unforeseen circumstances. The Emergency Housing program has helped over 100 families in the community and continues to be a program that works directly with the Domestic Violence Crisis enter, YWCA, and Sheriff’s Department in Ward County.
