Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service offered to Minot Public Library (MPL) cardholders. It provides access to resources from many libraries across the United States and greatly expands the range of library materials available to MPL patrons.
How it works:
What are the borrowing terms?
Patrons may request up to 10 items at a time. Length of borrowing time is generally 4 weeks but at the discretion of the lending library. Renewals must be requested before the item is due and are also at the discretion of the lending library. Most library materials are available with the exception of rare books, genealogical and reference materials, and current bestsellers.
Charges:
There is a $3.00 service charge per item borrowed through ILL.
Any additional lending fees assessed by the lending library will be passed onto the individual requesting the loan.
MPL has more than just books! Library users can check out a maximum of fifty (50) items per Library card. For a complete list of borrowing terms please click here.
Most items checked out from the Minot Public Library can be renewed 2 times unless the item is on reserve for another patron. Whenever possible, items will be automatically renewed. However, the following items are exceptions which cannot be renewed:
Special Loans (Reference Books authorized for circulation)
Rapid Reads
Interlibrary Loans (unless approved by the lending library)
Items can be renewed online through the Library’s website or by calling the Library at (701) 852-1045.
Patrons are encouraged to recommend titles for purchase. A request card can be completed at a Library circulation desk, over the phone, or by filling out the form below.
A requested item is not a guarantee of purchase and may take up to six weeks or longer to be received. If a requested item is not purchased for the collection, the person who made the request will be informed of the decision.
Patrons can reserve items to be held for them at the Library by logging into their account through our online catalog, stopping by, or calling the Minot Public Library. Each patron can have no more than 10 items on reserve at a time. Patrons should allow 24 hours for the item(s) to be ready for you to pick up. A staff member will notify you of items available to pick up via email, text message, or phone call. All items will be held at the Library for 4 days.
Please note: If you will not be able to come to the Library to pick up the items you’ve reserved within the outlined timeframe please wait to place your reserve. Finding items on reserve and making them available takes staff time as does removing the items and putting them back on the shelves.
