POSITION OPENINGS
Children’s Library Assistant
Provides customer service registering patrons, checking materials out, one story time per week, and helping patrons locate materials; enters patron application data in to the library’s circulation software; does shelving, monthly housekeeping and other assigned tasks.
HOURS:
10-22 hours/week
SHIFT FLEXIBILITY REQUIRED:
Tuesday & Wednesday 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Every 3rd weekend
Saturdays 9:30 am- 5:00 pm
Sundays 12:30pm-5:00 pm
HOURLY WAGE:
$13.26/hour
BENEFITS:
Vacation and Sick Leave prorated to hours worked
DESIRED MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Excellent customer services skills are required along with experience working with a variety of computer software.

Library Director
PURPOSE
The Library Director serves as the chief executive director of the Minot Public Library. The Library Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations and carrying out the prescribed policies adopted and reviewed by the Library Board of Trustees.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish a Strategic Plan that aligns the library’s mission, vision, core values and with community needs and priorities. Lead staff, board and other stakeholders toward achieving these.
- Provide leadership to employ and develop high performance professional and support staff. Coordinate the Human Resource function of the library including: recruiting, selecting, hiring, firing, supervision, evaluation, staff development and training, promotion, conducting staff meetings, and delegation of responsibility.
- Instill a people-centered culture geared toward improving both library services and patron satisfaction with library materials, services and programs.
- Exercise independent judgment within board policy guidelines; evaluates and analyzes issues and policies; recommends and implements solutions; identifies and monitors goals and objectives; assures effective communication of action.
- Budget and manage the financial assets of the Library. In conjunction with the Library Board, develops and implements a sound financial plan for current and future library operations including cultivating grants and private funding sources.
- Oversee the selection of books, digital resources and other materials, and coordinates the removal and disposition of outdated and unused items.
- Develop and implement public relations and marketing to increase visibility and support for the Library including promotional and educational campaigns to improve understanding and optimize the use of library services and programs.
- Maintain a five-year plan for technology and equipment replacement and enhancements, and provides the Board with the plan annually.
- Assure the proper maintenance of library facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Develop a list of needed major repairs and major improvements and provide the Board with a building capital improvements plan annually, including a replacement and repair schedule.
- Follow established Board policies on capital expenditures, major purchases and facility upgrades, and seek Board authorization prior to purchase.
- Coordinate writing of bid specifications, purchasing of equipment, and communicating with contractors and vendors.
- Ensure proper accounting procedures are followed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the accounting procedures of the City of Minot Finance Department.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the mayor, city council, other departments, community agencies and groups, volunteers, Friends of the Library, State Library, state legislators, and the general public, thereby giving the library a high profile in the community.
- Participate in the City’s management team.
- Establish mutually beneficial working relationships with regional and state consortia and, through participation in professional organizations, creates opportunities to showcase the Minot Public Library.
- Maintain positive communication and rapport with staff, customers, and external organizations.
- Keep current on trends in the Library field through continuing education, networking with other professionals, and participating in local, state, regional, and national organizations.
KEYS TO SUCCESS
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Supervisory and management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of library management practices and procedures including planning, organizing, budgeting, staffing, human resources, collection management and technology.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to successfully coach, mentor, train and hold team members accountable to library goals.
- Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to exercise diplomacy in an organizational setting and operating with excellence in mind with the confidence to defend/debate ideas without interference of ego
- Efficient use of standard technology (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, etc.) and working knowledge of social media.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a library setting with controlled temperatures and a noise level that is low to moderate. The employee works irregular shifts under low to medium stress. Interaction with library users and vendors may include stressful situations related to negotiating and resolving problems.

Teen Library Assistant
This is an entry level customer service/clerical position responsible for assisting the Teen Librarian in hosting teen programming, promoting services for teens, attending outreach events, maintaining the Young Adult collection and ensuring proper placement and replacement of library materials and Makerspace devices. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Teen Librarian. This staff member is responsible to support the goals and objectives of the Library and for participating as a team member and supporting Library Board policies and strategic plan.
HOURS:
15 hours weekly
SHIFT FLEXIBILITY REQUIRED:
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons required, otherwise hours can be flexible
HOURLY WAGE:
$13.26/hour
