Children's Programs

Children
Maker Monday

Independent children ages 3-6 are encouraged to come to this story time without their caretakers to listen to stories and make a craft. Starting at 10:00 am and approximately 30 minutes, Maker Monday will start on Monday, February 5th, and run until Monday, April 8th, 2024. This program has a limit of 30 kids. Please get your ticket at the Children’s Circulation Desk on Monday mornings.

Smart Start

Children ages 3-5 and their caretakers can come to this story time to listen to stories and build up the skills they’ll need for school. Smart Start is a 60-minute program at 10:00 am and runs from Tuesday, February 6th to Tuesday, April 9th, 2024.

Lap Sit Story Time

Lap Sit Story Time is for children ages 0-3 and their caregivers to listen to stories, sing songs, and do fingerplays. This story time lasts 20-30 minutes, starting at 10:00 am. Lap Sit Story Time will begin Wednesday, February 7th, and run through Wednesday, April 10th.

READ Dogs

Come to the Children’s Library on the first Tuesday every month between 4:00 – 5:00 pm to practice your reading skills with our READ Dogs! This is for all ages, and patrons can read to the dogs for 15 minutes on a first-come, first-served basis.

Family Story Time

This story time is for families. A special guest will be here to read stories and make a craft and to help start conversations about the community. Family Story Time is the 2nd Saturday of every month at 10:30 am.

Kindness Knights

This program is for children grades 2-6 to work together with and in the community. Check out our Facebook page or call the Children’s Library at 701-838-0606 to find out where we are meeting for the month, as the location varies. Kindness Knights is the 2nd Saturday of every month at 1:00 pm.

LEGO Club

Children 4 years to 5th grade and adults interested in building are encouraged to create fantastic LEGO structures, which will be displayed in the Children’s Library that month! LEGO Club is on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 6:00 – 7:00 pm (note NEW time!). We will not have LEGO Club on the fourth Tuesdays of May and December, and there will be no LEGO Club in August.

Pokémon Club

Are you interested in learning about Pokémon the game? Our club for kids ages 6-12 will meet on the first Thursday of every month to play the Pokémon card game and work on our featured craft activity from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Kids will be able to trade Pokémon Cards from 7:00 – 7:30 pm. Our program administrators must approve all trades.

TEENS
Video Gaming

Who doesn’t love to play video games with friends!?  We offer Afterschool Gaming once a month and on special days off school as well!  We have an XboxOne, a PlayStation 4, a Nintendo Switch, and a WiiU!  We play T or E rated games only.

Board Game Party

Bring your buddies and let the board battles begin! It’s always a great time with friends. We have Catan, Exploding Kittens, Unstable Unicorns, Throw, Throw Burrito and so many more!

Life Size Games

What’s more fun than board games? BIG board games! The teen library loves to take your favorite board games and make them huge so that your body is your game piece and the game is an immersive experience! Keep an eye on the calendar for the next life size game.

3D Builds

Ever want to learn how to 3D design? We have the perfect program to help you. Join us once a month to learn design and revision techniques while making magnets, flexi critters, keychains and more! 3D prints are free to those who attend the program.

Teen Crafts

Self-expression and exploration are cornerstones of our teen library and we offer lots of crafts to allow you to explore and let your true self shine through! We make Candy Sushi,  Pinecone Flowers, Macrame`, Beaded Windchimes, Candles and more.

Movies

Our librarians appreciate a good movie and love to show them on early release school days!  Popcorn is on the house so bring your own drink and your buddies and lets watch a movie!

Makerspace

We are proud of our Makerspace and want to make sure our teens know all about it! We have roll printing, a green screen, Adobe Creative Cloud and more for all your in-house creative needs. We also have items available for check out such as, robots, cameras and Adventure Packs!

MONDAYS ARE FOR MURDER

Grab your friends, and put your detective skills to the test! Or is your your deception skills you’ll need? It all depends on whether or not you’re the murderer! On the first Monday of every month, the adult library hosts a murder mystery night for adults 18+ Dressing up isn’t mandatory but always fun and welcomed. Registration is required, but acting skills are not.

Books ‘N Brews

If you love reading, and want to meet and discuss with a fun group of people, then you should join us for MPL’s adult book club! This program is for adults 18+.  Over the years we have read mysteries, memoirs, graphic novels, YA fiction, and so much more! Books ‘N Brews meet on the first Thursday of every month at Badlands!

THAT'S CRAFTASTIC!

Get in touch with your crafty side! Every second Wednesday of the month join Emily, our Adult Services Librarian, for a fun and easy craft. We’ll try everything from melted crayon art to UV Resin. Registration is required.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

Adults and teens sixteen and up are invited to participate in our role-playing game! Every experience level is invited- from brand new players to experienced veterans of the game. You can either make your own level 5 character or use one of our premade characters. Registration is not required.

Twisted Stitches

Calling all fiber art enthusiasts! Bring your current WIP or start something new with the help of staff and fellow patrons in this skill-learning, pattern-sharing, friend-making opportunity you don’t want to miss! This program is for adults 18+. Registration is not required.
