As Summer Reading is winding down, the Children’s Library is getting ready for our remodel.
Starting Monday, July 31st, the Children’s Library will be closed to the public. During the first week of the closure staff will move over 40,000 items and bookshelves. Several small children’s collections will be in the lobby sometime during that week. Available to check out at the Adult Circulation Desk. Children’s materials will not be available for reserve during the remodeling process.
A couple of things to note is access to the meeting rooms will be restricted to the southwest entrance and the 2nd-floor elevator. There will not be a foyer art display when the remodel occurs. Also, Children’s Summer Reading rewards will be available at the Adult Circulation Desk from Monday, July 31st to Saturday, August 5th. Saturday, August 5th, is the last day to redeem tokens and pick up book prizes.
Starting Monday, August 7th, the remodel portion will begin. The Children’s Library will have a complete overhaul. Including new paint, carpet, custom woodwork, custom play area, and other decors that will turn the Children’s Library into a forest of imagination.
This project consists of two parts. The first part is the interior of the Children’s Library, expected to be done on October 27th or prior. The second part is the entrance to the Children’s Library, expected completion on November 27th or prior. After completion of the interior portion, the Children’s Library will be open for business. Patrons will need to enter through the southwest entrance.
This project will be at least half funded through grants and donations from the Glenn Perkins Foundation, Minot Area Community Foundation, Friends of the Minot Public Library, Minot Optimist Club, Magic City Lions, Junior Golf Association, Hess Force, SRT, Enbridge, Verendrye Electric, Basin Electric, Scheel’s, and private donations.
Please stay tuned to the Minot Public Library’s social media accounts to stay updated on remodel progress and reopening date. Rest assured the Children’s Library staff are working hard to make out dream a reality for the families of Minot and the surrounding area.
