An often overlooked section of the library comes to the forefront in December! December’s Sweater Weather Topic is Poetry.

According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica, poetry is defined as “literature that evokes a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience or a specific emotional response through language chosen and arranged for its meaning, sound, and rhythm.” This definition makes poetry unique in the way that it is constructed.

There are many types of poetry that have been popular throughout the years. There are many famous classic poets that have had a great influence on our culture. People who fit into these categories include Robert Frost, John Keats, Walt Whitman, and Emily Dickinson. There are also modern poets like Amanda Gorman, rupi kaur, and Douglas Kearney as well as many others that would be interesting to read. And another kind of poetry is Epic Poetry, which includes longer forms of literature like Beowulf, the Odyssey, and the Epic of Gilgamesh. All of these kinds of poetry would qualify for December’s Sweater Weather topic.
