More than ten percent of the children will have disabilities. Head Start is sponsored by the Minot Public Schools. Following are programs which Minot Head Start operates.

HEAD START: A center based preschool program which serves three to five year old children and their families. The program provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and social services to enrolled children and promotes parent involvement in the child’s education and development.

EARLY HEAD START: Children have a center-based child development program. This includes center experiences, home visits and parent classes. The program provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition and social services to enrolled children and promotes parent involvement in the child’s education and development. Families have the opportunity for a home based option. This includes a weekly home visit and parent topics twice per month at the center. A family advocate is assigned these families to develop goals and offer resources.

EARLY READING FIRST is a grant that impacts both Head Start and Early Head Start. It is designed to transform existing early education programs into centers of excellence that provide high-quality, early education to young children, especially those from low-income families. The overall purpose of the Early Reading First Program is to prepare young children to enter kindergarten with the necessary language, cognitive, and early reading skills to prevent reading difficulties and ensure school success.

Additionally, the program: Provides limited transportation to families. Conducts weekly parenting classes. Provides meals to families when they come to be with their child. Addresses Health needs of each child, including dental, vision and audiology. Provides regular infant and toddler training sessions to child care providers from Ward County and beyond.
